2021 athletes are looking to the future

Over the past few months San Joaquin Memorial High School has had many athletes commit and sign to play sports at their future colleges. So far for the Class of 2021, there have been five athletes who have signed their letters of intent.

These athletes have committed to colleges they feel are the best fit for them. Some picked colleges far away, while some picked some right in their hometown.

First is Jaden Geron, one of SJM's star basketball players. Geron is a four-year varsity athlete and a three time Valley champion. Geron committed to Rice University in July to continue his academic and athletic career.

Another athlete attending college out of state is Macie James. James is a four-year varsity basketball player. During her time at SJM James earned three Valley titles back-to-back, which ultimately has helped lead the program to great success. She is currently ranked 88th in the country for the class of 2021. She recently signed her letter of intent to play at Oklahoma State University.

Velazquez, another girls varsity basketball player, will be taking her talents to San Francisco State University. She is a four-year varsity member and has won three Valley titles during her time here at SJM. We are looking forward to watching her compete at the next level.

Angela Whitfield is a four-year varsity girls basketball player. She has also been a part of the team's winning streak of three consecutive Valley titles. Whitfield had a few struggles throughout the years, including a knee surgery. However she fought hard and played her heart out and earned her scholarship to Fresno State. She will be joining Memorial alumna Aunjona James as a fellow Bulldog.

SJM football running back Jordan Hornbeak is most recent college-bound athlete. Hornbeak may have only been at Memorial for two years, but he has truly made an impact on our school's athletics program. This includes earning himself a Valley title and helping the football team to win two of its three consecutive Valley championships. On 16 December Hornbeak signed his letter of intent to play football at Fresno State. Jordan will be joining two Memorial alumni on the field: Class of 2019 football player Josh Kelly and Class of 2020 football and baseball player Mac Dalena.

Congratulations to all these athletes on continuing their talents at the next level. We will be cheering you on every second. We hope you all get to play your senior season and showcase your talents one last time for your SJM family. We hope to see more Panthers commit very soon.
