On November 13, sophomores and freshmen attended the first retreat since February of 2020. The campus ministers were excited to put on the first fall day retreat, which is new to Memorial due to COVID regulations.
Upon hours of preparation, the Campus Ministry team was elated to finally have a retreat, even though it was just one day long. The retreat took place at Calvin Crest in Oakhurst and lasted from 9:30 to 3:30. The retreat included large group activities, talks, small group questions, activity time, prayer service, and musical worship.
“I’m excited to get closer to the sophomores and freshmen at this retreat,” said Campus Minister Analiese Figueroa.
This was a great opportunity to promote community at this retreat and grow the sophomores and freshmen closer together, as well as help the Campus Ministers to get to know the underclassmen.
The retreatants consisted of 30 freshman and sophomores combined as they learned the importance of finding God in the ordinary. The retreatants stated that their favorite parts of the retreat were the large group activities and musical worship.
“I think it went great, all the kids participated and had lots of fun and so did I,” said Campus Minister Jazmine Cortez.
Jazmine was an MC at this retreat which meant she was the “face” of the retreat and led all the Campus Ministers in each of their tasks.
This retreat was a success and the Campus Ministers hope this continues at the next fall day retreat, which is on December 11. They hope that this retreat taught freshmen and sophomores a little bit more about themselves and their relationship with God and each other.
