Girls lacrosse starts off 2-1
This past week San Joaquin Memorial High School girls lacrosse started their 2021 season. They played a total of three games this past week and started their season off going 2-1. The Panthers are led by junior captain Claire Fitzgerald and senior co-captains Alex Olivares and Hannah Chuhlantseff.
The Panthers' first game on Monday was against one of the top teams in the league, the Edison Tigers. The Panthers fell short to the Tigers in an 11-13 game. The Panthers started the game off strong holding the Tigers' offensive back, however after many fouls and open free position shots the Tigers took the game.
The Panthers second game was on Thursday against the Sanger Apaches. Sanger was coming into this game 1-0 and the Panthers were coming in 0-1. The Panthers knew they needed to bounce back from their loss and they did just that. The Panthers went on to win the game against the Apaches 18-5! Junior Bella Bradford led the team scoring 7 goals, Chuhlantseff scored 5 and Fitzgerald brought in 3 points.
On Wednesday the Panthers were supposed to play Hoover, however due to the huge lightning storm that hit our valley, the game was postponed to Friday.
When Friday rolled around the Panthers were ready to play again. The team was pumped off such a huge win against the Apaches, that they came out with fire in their game against the Hoover Patriots. The Panthers went on to beat Hoover 10-5! Goal scores in this game were Bradford with 4, Fitzgerald with 3 and Chuhlantseff with 2.
Our Panthers will played Fresno High on Monday followed by Roosevelt on Wednesday, and they will finish the week off with Bullard on Thursday.
